Why this Kolaveri Jee?
After “Melody itni Choclaty kyo hai?” and “Hum Chloromint kyo khate hai?” , “Why this Kolaveri Di?” is the new question faced by the Indian Viewers. The word Kolaveri di in tamil, literary means Murderous rage, girl.
All started with just a mere youtube video, which got viral over the social media. The nation’s not asking a question, they’re rejoicing – Why this Kolaveri, Kolaveri, Kolaveri Di!
But this recent event of Sharad Pawar being slapped has made me ask, Why this Kolaveri Jee? (Why this Murderous rage sir?) This is not the first occasion when an incident like this has taken place. We all know the trends and popularity of shoeing or shoe throwing in India. People say, this act has no place in Democracy. And thus, I ask this question to Harvinder Singh and his colleagues who’ve taken action previously, I ask them Why this Kolaveri Jee?
Politicians are ducking flying footwear in India. Officials are beefing up security, even asking supporters to go barefoot. Okay now, feel the warmth the palm provides.
These missiles of malcontent have left politicians on edge and prompted inquiring minds to ponder: Why can’t journalists aim better? Do they get their shoes back? And is this so endemic that shoe hurling will become a required subject at journalism schools? Even as some throw shoes, responded a blogger, millions of Indians are too poor to own or wear shoes. “Appeal [to] these leaders to create some job opportunities in your country so we can get jobs and earn some money to buy shoes,” the SiliconIndia.com commentator wrote.
Taking the cue, the leaders have not been able to create job opportunities, shoe prices have risen. Throwing it and the cost of not getting it back is a big hit to the common man. And thus, Wham! Here comes the slap.
Not only shoe prices, but there has been inflation in each and every area. You may have given Job Opportunities, but added you give a long list of taxes. The salary gets reduced to pocket money.
Farmers dying, opting for suicide over crop seeds, common man only in hope to get selected for Crorepati season 6, common man left for the dust of footpath, left jobless. You talk about democracy right? Let’s see who gets punished faster-Kasab for killing civilians or Harvinder Singh for slapping Sharad Pawar. Talk democracy now.
A congress meeting to soon sit together. The ministers discuss how to save themselves from slaps and shoes. And they better do this, if they can’t meet our demands. Just wondering if a kick could have been better than the slap.
